Activities You Should Try This Fall!

0 Permalink 1

Fall is here!!! I’ve been a little MIA with work and being a dog mom but I’m here now. I just made my first batch of my award winning chili last week! It was perfection, as always. I just had my dad’s amaaaazing apple crisp for the first time this season too, so I’m obviously packing on the extra cals for winter (JK I need to be losing weight, Italy trip is in 7 weeks and I need to look like nothing short of a Kourtney Kardashian).

Fall is normally a fun time here in Central New York. The leaves start to change, everyone and their brother flock to the apple orchards, and you get your winter tire put on. Super fun stuff. But in all seriousness we do love it. The air is so crisp in the morning and it’s finally staying below 70 degrees during the day, needless to say we’re all loving life. There are a few things everyone neeeeeds to do this fall so I thought I’d put together a fun list of activities!

5 Activities You Should Try This Fall

Visit a local winery or brewery

John and myself are huge cider fans! We love visiting Critz Farms in Cazenovia every fall because they have THE BEST raspberry cider. They also have pumpkin picking and a cool corn maze on the property so it’s really a win-win. Also think they do apple fritters. Apple fitters are LIFE. But visiting these local places are not only fun but a lot of times pretty cheap!! Tastings are normally a few bucks.

Go apple picking

Yes, yes, I know it sounds basic. But it really is a fun activity and something we can only do once a year! I really want to make a homemade apple pie from scratch this year so picking a bunch of apple for delicious fall recipes is fun and gives you something to do on a rainy weekend day. I personally love Owens Orchard out near Auburn but Beak + Skiff is a local PHENOMENON so we may go their because they sell alcohol. But Owens has cheese, amazing cider donuts and more cheese. But we’d love to try somewhere where we can bring the pup so we will see!!

Stay in for a movie night

Seriously nothing is better then laying in bed for hours watching movies or a new Netflix show (cough Amanda Knox Docu cough). John and I are big movie people so convincing us to stay in and watch a movie is not hard. We actually just got a new bed so any excuse to just lay in it and never get up is a okay with us!! I actually have a full review on our Casper bed coming up soon so stay tuned but in the meantime how adorable is this Halloween Movie Night guide? So fun! Obviously wine is a necessity but I have to be honest, it’s rare for me to stay awake for an entire movie. I get SO SLEEPY.

Go for a long drive to a new or favorite restaurant

When the skies are so blue and the clouds are puffy and it’s like perfectly sunny, nothing is better then going for a drive! We like to take the back roads because John is a car guru and is known to really rip through the country side, lol. But really it’s quite fun and always a good photo opt moment too! Do some research on restaurants in the neighboring town or city and adventure on over to it (I suggest doing it before you really get hungry because nothing is worse then being hangry where there is no civilization). I’ve been really wanting to take a trip out to Albany or Saratoga so I’m hoping we have time for it this fall!

Plan a weekend getaway

We all need a weekend away, amiright?! Maybe it’s a girls weekend or just you and your partner, either way it’s the perfect time to look into a long weekend trip. Before it starts to get really cold grab your booties and your felt hats and go somewhere! I’ve been dying to get back to NYC to see some friends and explore before it’s tooo cold so I’m really hoping we can make it down there before the Italy trip! I’ve also never been to Boston (I KNOW) so I’m sure it’s beautiful this time of year there too. If you end up having to fly anywhere seriously look at Google Flights, I always used to only check Kayak until someone told me about Google Flights. It’s super awesome and really couldn’t believe I had never heard of it. Just another option!

Hope you enjoyed and have time to at least do a few of those things in next month or so :) I’m currently really upset that I couldn’t keep my fall flowers alive so I’m thinking I’ll hit up Michaels this weekend and fill them in with fake ones to make my neighbors think that I’m SOOO GOOD at gardening. Keeping up with the joneses, I’ll tell ya.

How to Clean Roshe Runs!

0 Permalink 1

I am (admittedly) terrible at one thing in life – cleaning. I can really clean for about 45 mins and then I’m bored. Well, now living with John and having an entire house to maintain, I’m tryyyyying to get better. Work in progress. Day by day.

My Nikes Roshe’s were SOO filthy from going to the gym, walking the dog, and trucking through the rain. They were are beautifully light grey color before they had seen the outside world. I’m sure yours where perfectly beautiful too. So, you bet your butt I wasn’t going to toss them in the back of the closet and go out and buy new ones — they obviously had to be cleaned. Without further ado, here are my steps on how to clean Roshe Runs –

how to clean roshe runs

  1. Clean the sole

    • Go out and buy a pack of Magic Erasers. These are PERFECT for cleaning the white sole of your shoe. See below. I heard this trick for a few people so I decided to try it out for myself. Actually worked wonders! How to clean roshe runs
  2. Prep your Roshe Runs for the wash

    • This means take out the laces but before you do just look twice as to how they are laced… the bottom lace goes into the last holes, not through to clean roshe runs
    • how to clean roshe runs
  3. The wash process

    • Take out the shoe liner inside… they just pop right out.
    • Now you are ready for the good stuff.
    • I used a small amount of OXY CLEAN detergent in a small load cycle. I also put the washer on cold water.
    • I wouldn’t suggest bleach as it will probably pull the color out depending on your Roshe’s.
    • Let the machine do it’s job.
  4. The follow up

    • Once the washer is done, check them. Mine were pretty dirty around the front white sole that comes up in the front. So, I used some SHOUT and sprayed the fronts and then put them back in the washer for a second cycle (using the same steps as above, along with the SHOUT spray).
  5. Examine

    • Now that the washer has done it’s job (hopefully), examine the Roshe Runs and see how purrrrty they look!
    • DO NOT put them in the dryer as that could effect the glue and material used to assemble the shoe. Just air dry them. It doesn’t take too long at all (3 hours maybe).
    • Once they are dry, put the shoe liners back in them. Reassemble the laces and you are GOOD TO ROCK AND ROLL!how to clean roshe runs

Dry Skin? Derma e Review!

0 Permalink 0

Derma e review 1

The winter months can be so hard on our skin, especially living up here in the tundra Upstate, NY. I actually have terrible skin problems in the changing months… aka right about now. This includes but is not limited to elbows so dry they are actually a cut, dry feet to the point where my sock get stuck on, and lastly confetti in my hair: dandruff. I have been battling the worst dandruff the past few months but THANKFULLY it’s just getting better now.

A few year ago John was having some skin problems so after a handful of doctor visits he found out he had Eczema. He had wicked dry skin patches on his eye lids, chest and inner arm. It was so irritating for him itchy, flacking and, the worst, the redness. I don’t think it would have bothered him as much if it wasn’t on his face. Strange enough, it was just the eye lids. He was prescribed some sort of steroid cream that he still has to this day for when anything gets dry. Some people will have this so bad their entire life while others will have it seasonally or randomly. Psoriasis is kind of the same way but something a bit different. A friend of mine has Psoriasis and she did SO much to try and treat it but it’s just something you have to live with. We all probably remember the episode Kim K found out she had Psoriasis (the world ended) but it’s a real thing that effects so many people!

Kim K psoriasis

After talking to a friend at work about this new brand I was trying out, she told me that it’s one of the only brands she has switched to and liked! So I knew I was in for something good. The brand is called derma e, a vitamin-rich, high performance antioxidant skincare product line. Always being aware, derma e also adheres to the highest ethical standards when it comes to animal welfare and our impact on the planet (woohoo!!).

Derma e review 2

I obviously tried out the Shampoo and Conditioner first,  and it was an interesting experience compared to other “dandruff shampoos”. I have to say this shampoo smelled like Listerine for your hair!! In a good way!  It was a cool and refreshing smell that felt great when washed in – same for the condition. I used about the same amount I would with any other shampoo and conditioner. I have had dandruff shampoos leave a terrible grease feeling at the top of my head after washing. Not with derma e. It was soooo nice to dry my hair and see it voluptuous at the end, not flat!

Derma e review 3

Next was the Psorzema Cremé. The Creme is perfect for dry skin, eczema or psoriasis problems! I have THE WORST dry elbows no matter how much I moisturize but after putting on the Creme the visible dryness was gone (the ugliest part) and they felt quite clean and fresh. The Creme is a bit thicker then your normal lotion or hydrating lotion. Which if it’s think, then I know it’s gotta be doing something! I will say the smell of the Creme is a bit “dull”. Not much pretty fragrance to it but if you live with or know anyone with eczema you know you can’t have fragrance filled ANYTHING. Dry sheets included (and no it doesn’t make me mad……..). To learn more about the product check out a helpful video here!

Overall reviewing derma e was just a great experience. When you have dandruff/dry skin & eczema in the same household it’s hard to find something that works for both of you. I look forward to adding these products into our routine! So, since derma e rocks they are letting me give the first 10 of my readers and friends 3 FREE foil packs of the Psorzema Creme! Go thru this link and sign up :) It can be for you or someone you know how suffers from dry skin. How awesome is that!?

5 Things We learned After Getting a Puppy!

0 Permalink 0

It’s been a few weeks! Becaaaaaause… we got a puppy!! This is Mila and she is an Australian Shepherd and her coloring is called Blue Merle. We are SO obsessed with her! I will say she is quite crazy (like all the time) but her face is just too stinking cute.

New Puppy

John and myself did a bunch of research prior to picking out this breed so we know they are high energy and love to be attached. We really wanted a pup that is obedient, likes to learn and likes to play frisbee… that last one is at John’s request lol. But, once we got her, there was SO much more we needed to learn about puppies in general. So if you have a puppy or are thinking about getting one, here is my advice to you –

5 things we learned after getting a puppy –

5 Things we learned after getting a puppy

  1. Don’t plan on sleeping

Okay, this seems like whatever but SERIOUSLY I was not prepared for the lack of sleep. The first 2.5 days were exhausting. I would try and get a nap in when the pup slept but I was so nervous that she would wake up and do something so I practically just laid there staring at the inside of my eyelids. I highly suggest taking turns with your significant other and do a few “shifts” so each of you can catch a few hours of sleep. If you’re really sleepy and cranky while trying to train your puppy in those first few days, your life will suck. Not lying here. You will get mad at everything and it will literally make things worse. SO definitely be prepared to function on like 5 hours of sleep.

2. You cannot have enough paper towels

Again, you might chuckle here but we didn’t realize how much these puppies pee in one day. I kid you not probably 20 times. They cannot hold their bladders for more than about an hour, so they’ll literally stop playing suddenly and just go tinkle. No notice, no bark, nothing. So, I highly recommend stocking up on paper towels to clean everything up. After some research we also purchased Natures Miracle, which is an oder remover and cleanup product. It’s amazing and worth it. Highly suggest it. After spraying where the accident was, it takes the smell away so they don’t keep going back to the same spot to go potty. Which in our case is a real miracle. I see where it got it’s name…

3. Don’t make any plans

The first week is critical and tough. You want to teach your pup everything and you just want to lay down and have it cuddle with you. Here’s a reality check, that ain’t happenin! We had our eyes on Mila 24/7. Making sure she didn’t get into this or get into that. Literally running around after her. We barely had time for lunch or dinner (if you know me, that’s like unheard of). We successfully trained her to sit, lay down, and half way roll over in the first week. Success! But now all she does is just sit anytime we are near by lol. We’re working on it. But, I would not make any plans for the first few weeks the puppy is home. You want to spend as much time with them and make sure they are on the right path to training success (and feel comfortable in their new home). Frequently having them in the crate right off the bat might not be the greatest idea.

4. Don’t buy 300 different toys

We made the mistake of having a plethora of toys for Mila to play with! Who doesn’t love toys?! Well, you won’t if you do it wrong. After coming across this article (literally last week) we decided to take away 296 toys and only allow her to have about 4. 2 or 3 for our bedroom/play area and then 1 or 2 that go in our living room. We thought having tons of toys was a great idea but we were totally wrong. Doing it this way, it allows the puppy to know not everything they see is a toy and not everything that moves is a toy. Mila is obsessed with these small Kong tennis balls. They are the perfect size for puppies! We are now just learning how to fetch properly and it’s going great since she is so used to having the one toy! But please keep your fingers crossed on this one.

5.  Patience is key

This may go without saying but patience is the most important thing in the first week or 2. I didn’t realize off the bat how patient I needed to be. To start I’m like the worst patient person so this was hard to adjust to. It takes the puppy sometimes 15 mins to go potty outside. Well, when it’s 2 am and 35 degrees and the wind is blowing, my patience is at a -100. But remember – the puppy can’t help it and they rely on you to take them out and make sure they do it right. Rome wasn’t built in a day so don’t rush stuff. I also want to mention being patient with your significant other during this time is critical as well. There will be times you want to freak out on each other or curse one another out!! Just keep calm and know you both are doing the best you can. Freaking out on each other will only make things worse, it’s not worth it. Just be patient with everything, I know it’s easier said then done but you will definitely learn the true meaning of patience a few days in. Kind of like the couples on Amazing Race but a tad different.

Puppy Kisses

I hope that helped! Getting a puppy was definitely an eye opening experience. We learned so much after getting her. I was about 8 when we got Patches, my family dog (and my first love), so my parents were mostly responsible for the stuff mentioned above. I GIVE IT TO THEM. But having Mila is an experience I wouldn’t want to trade anything for. We really looking forward to training her and getting her to play frisbee in the backyard and walk around the block off leash. We are months away from that but we look forward to learning more along the way! Keep checking back for progress on her training and just her growth :) We currently call her the Panda-Cow :)

Motivation Monday

Ahh, hello! I know I’m a day late and dollar short here but whatever I make my own rules! Sunday was a day filled with far to much alcohol & staying up till the butt crack of dawn watching the Oscars so coming home after work on Monday was more of a sit on the couch, have ramen for dinner type of Monday. And something stupid has been going on with our internet and router (according to John) so our internet was in and out for parts of the night. Really exciting stuff going on over here!!!

Well I couldn’t let the week start without some motivation. Work has been quite stressful and working out everyday after work is sometimes a struggle, so some solid motivation is needed to stay on track and kill it as a #girlboss…

So in his honor, he is my first Motivation Monday co – host. Here are 2 quotes spoken from his delicious looking mouth that we all need to remember –

Spring is that You?

0 Permalink 0

I thought that Phil the groundhog didn’t see his shadow?? That means early spring but it’s been nothing but cold and snow ever since he came out of that hole. One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to (more now then ever) is breaking out my spring clothes!! I’ve rotated my favorite 4 sweaters long enough! In all seriousness, take a look at your closet and look through alllll the stuff you wear only during one season. It’s kinda crazy. Lauren Conrad’s Style book is a great resource for narrowing down your closet and shopping for things you actually need. And it has awesome pictures :)

I know when I moved out of my parents house my mom took over my closet… She hung clothes in there that I haven’t seen since I graduated high school! I have no idea how or where all this stuff came from. All I know is that she better not mess up my Derek Jeter shrine in the back of my closet. Those newspaper clipping could be worth something someday!

Spring storage tips

Well, organizing my life, closet included, is on my to-do this year. I recently came across this awesome on-demand storage company and they l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y send you boxes, pick them up, and then put them in storage for you. All lazy people bow down! Can you imagine how your closet would look if you rotated seasonal clothes? Omg it would look like this –

Perfect spring closet

via Style at Home

Who doesn’t want that?!?!?! Who wouldn’t give up a first born for this! You really should think about putting things into storage and checking these guys out. It’s one easy step that could relieve some stress. Especially my friends in NYC, you seriously should look into their storage!! I’ve seen your closets, or lack there of…

Here are a few great ways to clean out your closet going into spring (because I know you all need a little spring cleaning motivation) –

1. Fold All Sweaters

Some sweaters take up so much space if you hang them. First of all, I only hang certain ones because if they are too heavy they will destroy the shoulders, and it’s so upsetting when that happens. I suggest folding. Keep a few spring sweaters or perfect layering cardigans at easy access because you’ll wear those all the time. Everything else, why not pack up and put away in storage! Throw in a few dryer sheets to keep them smelling nice and you’ll be so happy come fall.

2. Seasonal Jeans vs Everyday Jeans

If you said that statement to any male they would be so confused and ask a million questions, laugh, or just roll their eyes. But ladies, we all know there are 2 distinct differences!! Light jeans, white jeans, and super destroyed jeans are for warmer weather only so they rarely get worn in the cooler months, unless you get to go on vacation, you lucky little betch… Keep your seasonal jeans separated so when you don’t do laundry for a few weeks you don’t think you have tons of clean jeans. #SpeakingFromExperience

3. Shoes

If you are like me you easily have 10-20 different pairs of shoes but only wear your favorite 5. I have shoes for weddings specifically, shoes that I got such a great deal on, and shoes I just needed to have. Sending shoes out in storage is a cool new solution for cleaning up the biggest source of clutter in your closet! If they are away in storage and you haven’t even missed them once, then maybe getting rid of them forever is a permanent solution to de-clutter! One of my goals for this spring is to get a bookcase or shelving to organize my shoes on. Looks way prettier than lining the floor in my closet lol

After some reorganizing it looks like I may need to treat myself to a few new spring items :) No need to pull my arm or anything!! Best of luck with spring cleaning. I’m counting down the days until the snow melts and the green grass pops through so I can wear my nude wedges again.

What To Accomplish in 2016

0 Permalink 1

Yes, I’m about 33 days behind on this “2016 goal” mumbo jumbo. But here’s the deal – didn’t know what my goals were until I knew how 2016 was going to start out! Oooobviously “be skinny”, “lose weight”, “don’t eat Taco Bell 2 times a week” are at the top of the list but there is more to it. After thinking about I’ve come up with a list. Yes, it’s totally a 20 somethings list because I’m gonna milk that line till the last moment possible but for real we all need to remember we are only in a our 20’s once… let’s not fret about the $20 dinner.

Goals for 2016

Life —

Work —

  • Less chit chat throughout the day
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff
  • Leave work at work, don’t bring it home
  • Quit bitching, complaining, venting
  • Get that f***ing promotion!

Home —

  • Try a different Pinterest recipe at least 4 times a month
  • Fully complete the spare bedroom & closet room
  • More crafts, crafts, crafts
  • Go to Ikea!!!!

Finances —

  • Put away something into savings every 2 weeks (can be 5 bucks)
  • Pay down credit card & pay off store cards
  • By end of the year have another “points” credit card

Health —

  • Do the Kayla Itsines workout ALL THE WAY THROUGH
  • Eat less dairy (this is so, so hard already)
  • Less going out to eat, more eating at home
  • Try organic options (even though they cost more and it kills me inside)
  • Try a new workout class
  • Workout 4 days a week

Some of these seem stupid or easy but my goal is to actually stick to it for the whole year. Some are general but I need to start somewhere! It actually feels great to write these goals down. After reading Cupcakes & Cashmere the other day, she linked to this amazing article that I can’t get out of my head. I highly suggest reading it, especially if you are in your 20s like me. It made me feel a bit better about my financial state and made me realize I’m not the only one… YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE! We all probably need to stop fretting about the small stuff and treat your self to the manicure or to a few drinks out. It will make you feel so much better.

Raining money gif

I’m most excited for reading more. It hit me today that I need to read a book and I need to read a book to get motivated and out of this bitchy rut I feel like I’m in. Some of it is good stuff because if I wasn’t bitching about something then I think something would be wrong. That would mean everything is too perfect and let’s not lie to ourselves… it ain’t perfect (especially all you bloggers out there showing off your perfect, catalog looking homes) Anyway, I hate to admit this but I haven’t read a book in full in years. Probably since college and I probably spark noted it or watched the relatable movie lol. I want to switch it up and read before bed instead of cruising my phone apps. We will see how it goes.

I’m also feeling motivated to start doing a Motivation Monday series! My friend Brook has been doing them and even if it’s just a post of pictures, it give me that little extra pop of motivation for the day/week. So stay tuned next Monday for the first one :)

get things done quote

Just remember to write your goals down and celebrate when you cross one off. I know I need to it and I know I’m really excited to do it!

10 Things Teresa Giudice Missed While in Prison

0 Permalink 0

Raise your hand if you’ve indulged in countless hours of Real Housewives viewing. Perfect, hands down. Raise your hand if RHONJ is one of your favorites (obv behind Real Housewives of Miami because we all were obsessed with that…JK no one was). Perfect, hands down. Raise your hand if you felt any emotional hardship over the decisions of Teresa Giudice’s sentencing. Perfect, so did I.

ter-gonnacry gif

Since the queen of Jersey is now out of jail I thought it could be fun to recap 2015 all while reminiscing the time Teresa was in prison.

10. Andy Samberg gave out his HBO password

This made the list because the shit actually worked. I’m sure the Giudice family could have used the free viewing of HBO because lets be real, none of us want to pay… for anything. Their family just actually went a little further with that idea.

tre head nod gif

9. Caitlyn Jenner

I’m sure this made it’s way into the jail walls but this was a big thing this year. Out of everything, her freaking wardrobe for being a female for what… 3 months… is way better than any of us peasant workers could ever dream of. Tre would have approved of the wardrobe selections I’m sure.

tre - haiflip gif

8. Chrissy Teigen took over the world

Bi*** needs to be my friend. Bottom line. I can see the hours of laughter and the BFF bonding time over John playing the piano as we munch on some homemade snacks. Tre would have loved her insta’s, been super excited over the pregnancy announcement, and probably had some 2 cents over her well played Twitter ‘arguments’ this year.

tre bffl gif

7. That stupid, annoying, worst viral thing ever, black or white dress

It’s blue and black. Get over it. It’s how your eyes see the color white and blah blah barf barf blah. I saw it white once… once out of like 50 times. Tre would have seen white and been SO VERY confused over it. It’s okay we disagree on this one.

tre confusion gif

6. Donald Trump is running for Prez and so is Kanye at some point

Too much politics for me on this one. I just really want someone (president, the lottery, fairy godmother) to do away with my student debt. Tre is probably not that happy with uhhh the government right now… but hey, jail looks like it did a great job on her new bod. Same type of thing when you get the flu and throw up a few times. Not the worst thing ever.

Milania - hair gif

5. Steve Harvey effing up the Miss Universe winner

Ah this one gets me every time. Did he do it on purpose did he not? I guess we will never know. The card was INCREDIBLY confusing, I get him there BUT you’ve got ONE JOB STEVE. If I was poor Miss Colombia (which I’d never be, my pasty white ass over here) I would not have given up that crown. Let me have it for a week then I’ll rethink the whole thing. Tre would have been devastated for Miss C. They probably could relate somehow.

tre-giudice-wave gif

4. Kim K had another baby

Happy Days for the West family! Their family grew from 3 to 4. North is becoming a star herself so I can’t wait to see how Saint (BARF) takes on social media. NO one and I mean NO one will compare to the Guidice girls though.

Milania gif

3. Derek Jeter got engaged

Still. No. Words.

Tre table flip

2. I went to my first bachelorette party

I mean really thought how cool is this one! No, strippers were not present, bummer I know. But still was an insanely fun filled day with so much alcohol, it’s actually nauseating to think about again. My long time friend Alyssa got married so it was fun to get part of the gang back together! Tre never says no to a drink, so in her honor we had some Fabellini… a lot of Fabellini actually.

Without further ado –

1. Adele

Everything Adele. Now I have a story for you. My friend Brit reallllly wanted tickets to her concert so I happened to be working from home that morning (patches had a hair appointment) so I figured why not, I’ll log on at 10am and try and help her out incase it’s insanity. Well you know the end of the story here. It was insanity!! I got in at 10:01. Got tickets. Section like 116 at MSG on Sunday. I messaged her and she already got them like a section different. So I sat there and debated about getting the tickets – I had 30 seconds to decide. With tax the 2 tickets would have been over 350 bucks and with Christmas like 2 weeks away I hesitated. So MY IDIOT SELF decided I would refresh to see whats available for the $95 tickets. I bet you can guess what happened. YES I NEVER GOT BACK IN SO I NEVER GOT TICKETS. The tickets I literally had in my hands are now going for like 2000 each. EACH. And I struggled with $350, UGH. This is something that I will never forgot. My dumbest moment in my social history. I’m sure Tre and Gia will be like row 10 at MSG living it up next September. Whatever.

Tre crying nod

There you have it. 2015 wrapped up with our dearest friend Teresa! 2015 was also big as I moved in with my lovely BF! It’s been a lot of fun so far and I don’t yet want to chop his head off or take him out by the knees. We are doing some fun home renovations to his house though so I will try to share some of that in the next few posts!
