Motivation Monday – Drinking Edition

0 Permalink 0

First off, Happy National Margarita Day my friends!!! Second, Happy Motivation Monday! Today’s post is a fun twist on the traditional topic…

I had a lovely few margs on Friday and I plan to do the same this Friday so I will push the celebration off till then. I THINK this National Marg Day ordeal should be like the last friday in February or something so we have the whole weekend to celebrate. Doesn’t that make more sense? Whatever. Well, I’m taking this amazing holiday and turning it into some motivation. I’m not talking drinking till you can’t stand motivation but more so like work so hard so you deserve that motherf*$#’n drink motivation!!

Enjoy, my slightly alcoholic, friends :)

In conclusion, the real motivation here is to drink margs, eat tacos, and still remain skinny. If anyone has a specific break down plan on how to do this perfectly, please email me.

PS Here is last weeks real Motivation Monday in case you missed it!

Happy Monday! It’s a balmy 11 degrees out. This weekend hit about -30 with windchill. I had NO IDEA we lived in the arctic…

Motivation Monday

As I mentioned in my recent goals post I wanted to start doing some Motivation Monday posts to just give myself a little pep talking going into the week. We all can always use some motivation to get us this through the hectic work week especially when the sun doesn’t come out and all we see is the color grey and are our skin is all so milky white… Anyways, take some free motivation! Go have a killer week :)

What To Accomplish in 2016

0 Permalink 1

Yes, I’m about 33 days behind on this “2016 goal” mumbo jumbo. But here’s the deal – didn’t know what my goals were until I knew how 2016 was going to start out! Oooobviously “be skinny”, “lose weight”, “don’t eat Taco Bell 2 times a week” are at the top of the list but there is more to it. After thinking about I’ve come up with a list. Yes, it’s totally a 20 somethings list because I’m gonna milk that line till the last moment possible but for real we all need to remember we are only in a our 20’s once… let’s not fret about the $20 dinner.

Goals for 2016

Life —

Work —

  • Less chit chat throughout the day
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff
  • Leave work at work, don’t bring it home
  • Quit bitching, complaining, venting
  • Get that f***ing promotion!

Home —

  • Try a different Pinterest recipe at least 4 times a month
  • Fully complete the spare bedroom & closet room
  • More crafts, crafts, crafts
  • Go to Ikea!!!!

Finances —

  • Put away something into savings every 2 weeks (can be 5 bucks)
  • Pay down credit card & pay off store cards
  • By end of the year have another “points” credit card

Health —

  • Do the Kayla Itsines workout ALL THE WAY THROUGH
  • Eat less dairy (this is so, so hard already)
  • Less going out to eat, more eating at home
  • Try organic options (even though they cost more and it kills me inside)
  • Try a new workout class
  • Workout 4 days a week

Some of these seem stupid or easy but my goal is to actually stick to it for the whole year. Some are general but I need to start somewhere! It actually feels great to write these goals down. After reading Cupcakes & Cashmere the other day, she linked to this amazing article that I can’t get out of my head. I highly suggest reading it, especially if you are in your 20s like me. It made me feel a bit better about my financial state and made me realize I’m not the only one… YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE! We all probably need to stop fretting about the small stuff and treat your self to the manicure or to a few drinks out. It will make you feel so much better.

Raining money gif

I’m most excited for reading more. It hit me today that I need to read a book and I need to read a book to get motivated and out of this bitchy rut I feel like I’m in. Some of it is good stuff because if I wasn’t bitching about something then I think something would be wrong. That would mean everything is too perfect and let’s not lie to ourselves… it ain’t perfect (especially all you bloggers out there showing off your perfect, catalog looking homes) Anyway, I hate to admit this but I haven’t read a book in full in years. Probably since college and I probably spark noted it or watched the relatable movie lol. I want to switch it up and read before bed instead of cruising my phone apps. We will see how it goes.

I’m also feeling motivated to start doing a Motivation Monday series! My friend Brook has been doing them and even if it’s just a post of pictures, it give me that little extra pop of motivation for the day/week. So stay tuned next Monday for the first one :)

Just remember to write your goals down and celebrate when you cross one off. I know I need to it and I know I’m really excited to do it!

10 Things Teresa Giudice Missed While in Prison

0 Permalink 0

Raise your hand if you’ve indulged in countless hours of Real Housewives viewing. Perfect, hands down. Raise your hand if RHONJ is one of your favorites (obv behind Real Housewives of Miami because we all were obsessed with that…JK no one was). Perfect, hands down. Raise your hand if you felt any emotional hardship over the decisions of Teresa Giudice’s sentencing. Perfect, so did I.

ter-gonnacry gif

Since the queen of Jersey is now out of jail I thought it could be fun to recap 2015 all while reminiscing the time Teresa was in prison.

10. Andy Samberg gave out his HBO password

This made the list because the shit actually worked. I’m sure the Giudice family could have used the free viewing of HBO because lets be real, none of us want to pay… for anything. Their family just actually went a little further with that idea.

tre head nod gif

9. Caitlyn Jenner

I’m sure this made it’s way into the jail walls but this was a big thing this year. Out of everything, her freaking wardrobe for being a female for what… 3 months… is way better than any of us peasant workers could ever dream of. Tre would have approved of the wardrobe selections I’m sure.

tre - haiflip gif

8. Chrissy Teigen took over the world

Bi*** needs to be my friend. Bottom line. I can see the hours of laughter and the BFF bonding time over John playing the piano as we munch on some homemade snacks. Tre would have loved her insta’s, been super excited over the pregnancy announcement, and probably had some 2 cents over her well played Twitter ‘arguments’ this year.

tre bffl gif

7. That stupid, annoying, worst viral thing ever, black or white dress

It’s blue and black. Get over it. It’s how your eyes see the color white and blah blah barf barf blah. I saw it white once… once out of like 50 times. Tre would have seen white and been SO VERY confused over it. It’s okay we disagree on this one.

tre confusion gif

6. Donald Trump is running for Prez and so is Kanye at some point

Too much politics for me on this one. I just really want someone (president, the lottery, fairy godmother) to do away with my student debt. Tre is probably not that happy with uhhh the government right now… but hey, jail looks like it did a great job on her new bod. Same type of thing when you get the flu and throw up a few times. Not the worst thing ever.

Milania - hair gif

5. Steve Harvey effing up the Miss Universe winner

Ah this one gets me every time. Did he do it on purpose did he not? I guess we will never know. The card was INCREDIBLY confusing, I get him there BUT you’ve got ONE JOB STEVE. If I was poor Miss Colombia (which I’d never be, my pasty white ass over here) I would not have given up that crown. Let me have it for a week then I’ll rethink the whole thing. Tre would have been devastated for Miss C. They probably could relate somehow.

tre-giudice-wave gif

4. Kim K had another baby

Happy Days for the West family! Their family grew from 3 to 4. North is becoming a star herself so I can’t wait to see how Saint (BARF) takes on social media. NO one and I mean NO one will compare to the Guidice girls though.

Milania gif

3. Derek Jeter got engaged

Still. No. Words.

Tre table flip

2. I went to my first bachelorette party

I mean really thought how cool is this one! No, strippers were not present, bummer I know. But still was an insanely fun filled day with so much alcohol, it’s actually nauseating to think about again. My long time friend Alyssa got married so it was fun to get part of the gang back together! Tre never says no to a drink, so in her honor we had some Fabellini… a lot of Fabellini actually.

Tre drinks gif

Without further ado –

1. Adele

Everything Adele. Now I have a story for you. My friend Brit reallllly wanted tickets to her concert so I happened to be working from home that morning (patches had a hair appointment) so I figured why not, I’ll log on at 10am and try and help her out incase it’s insanity. Well you know the end of the story here. It was insanity!! I got in at 10:01. Got tickets. Section like 116 at MSG on Sunday. I messaged her and she already got them like a section different. So I sat there and debated about getting the tickets – I had 30 seconds to decide. With tax the 2 tickets would have been over 350 bucks and with Christmas like 2 weeks away I hesitated. So MY IDIOT SELF decided I would refresh to see whats available for the $95 tickets. I bet you can guess what happened. YES I NEVER GOT BACK IN SO I NEVER GOT TICKETS. The tickets I literally had in my hands are now going for like 2000 each. EACH. And I struggled with $350, UGH. This is something that I will never forgot. My dumbest moment in my social history. I’m sure Tre and Gia will be like row 10 at MSG living it up next September. Whatever.

Tre crying nod

There you have it. 2015 wrapped up with our dearest friend Teresa! 2015 was also big as I moved in with my lovely BF! It’s been a lot of fun so far and I don’t yet want to chop his head off or take him out by the knees. We are doing some fun home renovations to his house though so I will try to share some of that in the next few posts! But if are looking for like real home decor inspo, go check out my friends blog Hickory & Hearth!!  She won’t disappoint :)

Just remember I did see Beyonce on my birthday. Bey vs Adele… I’m not sure who wins here. Depends on the day. Bey did just crush it with Channing so she may be a little higher on the Richter scale.

Amazing Chili Recipe!

0 Permalink 0

The name for this should be: World Famous Chili

If you didn’t know, I am a TWO-TIME CHILI COOK OFF WINNER. My company has an annual chili cook off the week of Thanksgiving where 25 employees enter a chili. THAT’S right I beat 24 other chili’s, TWICE!! It’s really an accomplishment seeing as I used to hate chili growing up. Beans freak me out and veggies were just never my thing. But once I got a bit older and wiser, I started to like my dad’s chili pilled high with cheese and Fritos scoops for dipping (obv picking around the beans – that will never happen).

Screen Shot 2016-01-05 at 8.11.43 PM

Here is proof of my win

My winning recipe last year was a mac and cheese chili. PHENOMINAL if I do say so myself. I couldn’t even test it a second time because my crockpot was licked clean. **takes a bow** So this year I was out to take home the big W again. The trash talking around the office was at an all time high (no joke, so much trash talk) and I had the biggest target on my back. The only thing that cautioned me from the start was the new rules for this year competition– no pasta, rice, quinoa, cheese, and bunch of other crap. INNOVATION IS MY KEY TO SUCCESS. I went to the drawing board Pinterest to see what was out there. After some poking around I decided to go with a classic chili, my dad’s classic chili recipe. I added a few outliers to his recipe (to make it my own) but in the end the crux of the chili is the family recipe.

Going into chili day I was not as confident as I was the year before. Going into a competition with a classic is tough and nerve-wracking. The key to success and getting peoples votes (yes we all vote at the end, quite official actually) is to have a creative name. A name the people remember. A name the people keep talking about. A name the people chant and want more of. Okay sorry.

Well last years name was: Mac that Ass Up

This year’s name…

And let me tell you if the office was Twitter, Chiline Dion was #trending worldwide.

Despite the haters, I won with 26% of the votes. We have over 150 people in the office so yeah there is that. suckers.

Are you ready for the recipe now?

Amazing Chili Recipe

Okay here is what you will need:

1 pound of hamburger meat (80/20 but 90/10 if you feel like going for it)

1 pound of hot sausage patties (you will only use half so if you can find smaller, holler)

½-1 green pepper

½-1 small yellow onion

½ jalapeño, seeds INCLUDED

½-1 cup of celery

A chunk of garlic, chopped

1 bag of sharp cheddar sheese

1 LARGE can (28oz) of crushed tomatoes (If you like really chunky chili you could do something chunkier or half and half)

1 can (15 oz) of red beans (I HATE beans so I only put in half a can)

1 packet of chili seasoning, mild

Some brown sugar

Some cayenne pepper

Some cumin

Salt & Pepper

Get a large pot.

Brown the meats together in the pot. Use all the hamburger meat and then 3-4 patties of the hot sausage. Salt and pepper the shit out of it!!! Once that is brown but still has a few red chunks pour out a lot of the juices from the bottom of the pot. You can keep a little but try to get a lot out. After that, add in the veggies (pepper, jalapeño, onion, garlic, celery) to the meat. I put “½-1” in the directions because I only used a half of each but if my dad made it he’d probably use a full pepper and a full onion. All personal preference.

Make sure those are all chopped up decently. Once you give them a nice mix in with the meat, put a lid on it and let steam together for 3-5 mins.

Give it a few good stirs in the meantime.

Once that’s all mixed together and the veggies are no longer firm, add the chili mix right to the meat and veggies. This is key (I personally think). Stir that powder in real good and let sit for a few mins after.

Now add the beans. ADD IN THE BEAN JUICE (gross sounding, I know). Mix that all in. Maybe throw a few shakes of salt and pepper here… Now the fun part – add the full can of crushed tomatoes. Run the inside of the can under a little water to grab the leftovers on the side and pour only a little into the chili mixture. You definitely do not want too much water. Now mix!!!

At this point, it’s going to smell amazing, feel free to taste test. Cheese is always amazing so add in 2 handfuls of cheddar cheese and stir it in.

Wait about a min or so before doing anything else. Now the best ingredient – brown sugar. I add in like a finger grasp full into the chili. Mix it up real good then add in a tad bit more. I never measure this, go with your gut. Now I will add in a few dashes of extra cayenne, one healthy dash of cumin, and then a taste test.

Amazing Chili

From here you are done!!! It now depends on personal preference if you want a little more brown sugar or a little more heat with the cayenne!

Viola! The worlds best chili is literally in front of your eyes. Don’t forget the extra pile of cheddar cheese to top it all off. I made a batch of Jiffy corn muffins to go on the side and man, they just put the cherry on top!

Let me know if you have any questions on the recipe! You can email me – [email protected] or just leave a comment. If you do make it soon, let me know how it turns out!!

Holiday Gift Guide Cover Photo

Gifting season is in full effect and I keep telling myself to start saving and start looking for gifts here and there. Well, saving is WAY EASIER said than done. And, it’s so hard to keep an out for others when everything IS SO PERFECT right now. #shoppingaddiction. And now it’s already Black Friday so that didn’t work…

Last year my friends and I did a gift exchange. Highly suggest doing this if you have tons of people to buy for but you still wanna tell your besties you love them. We each chose a name and set a limit for price on gifts. We waited a few days after Christmas to exchange so it didn’t get in the way of everyone’s family events but this year we may work it before and who knows, probably make it into a wine night! Anyways, Black Friday is an amazing time to pick up gifts so keep an eye out this weekend!! Scarves and accessories are the perfect things to pick up on this big sale day since they end up being pretty cheap. Tons of stores sell out and won’t necessarily get everything back in again. Soooo, go do some damage girl –

Holiday Scarf Guide

Shop them all here:

Express | H&M | Target | Loft | Forever 21 | H&M | Old Navy

Scarves are a perfect gift for anyone! So seriously pick up a few because they are ALL on a great sale (and you know you like them, you know you waaaant them). If you don’t end up using it as a gift then BOOM new scarf for you. Really works out.

Look out LATER TODAY for a FULL Black Friday sale list. I highly suggest doing your research right now so as soon as you put it in the cart (online or literally) you can charge to the checkout (get the pun there LOL)!

DIY Day of the Dead Makeup | Halloween Recap

0 Permalink 0

We are officially into November which means we are officially into THE Christmas season. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday don’t get me wrong but there is just so much surrounding Christmas. So much money really surrounding it actually. But let’s not jump the gun just yet.

Let’s recap. I LOVE couples Halloween costumes. Me and John kill it when it comes to our costumes the past few years (brushes shoulder). Here is last years outfits –

80’s ski lodge goers (very similar to Hot Tub Time Machine)

80s halloween costume

Howard & Bernadette from Big Bang

Big Bang Theory Costume

Both of them were INSANELY comfortable costumes. Anything 80’s is so fun. I’m about to have an 80’s theme party for every event – maybe 80’s themed Christmas this year? Anyways, comfort was not the case for this year… we went for the wow factor. Either way it was a totally fun filled, too much drinking, lets get McDonalds for the 3rd time type of weekend.

We went as the great Gatsby Friday night (you DON’T want to hear the story about how my original dress didn’t get here on time)
DIY great gatsby couples costume

Here is my fav picture!

DIY great gatsby couples costume

Now onto the topic of this actual post!

Sugar skulls, day of the dead, creepy makeup where you don’t have to smile, whatever you want to call it…

Here is tutorial on how and what you’ll need to nail your Day of the Dead makeup!!

DIY day of the dead makeup

Here is what you will need:

  • A face
  • GOOD white face paint (got mine in a tube from Party City)
  • Face paint crayons, go for the set that has reds or blues in it
  • Black soft eyeliner pencil
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  • Small eye makeup brush
  • Foam makeup applicator
  • Black lipstick (I didn’t have any so I used a dark maroon)

To start –

DIY Sugar Skull 1

You can prime your face with SUPER LIGHT foundation. I did it on my face but didn’t on Johns – not a huge difference. Now go ham with your first layer of white face paint. It’s not going to cover perfectly on your first try/application.

  • Leave large circles around your eye with no paint
  • Leave front part of your nose with no paint (I didn’t do this off the bat but you should)
  • Get close to your lips (check specific paint directions to make sure it’s okay) with paint

DIY sugar skull 2

Apply another white layer once you feel like it’s decently dry. If you do it too soon you’ll see the paint not sticking to your face. I actually grabbed a small paint brush and touched up a few spots but I got the smoothness from putting a DECENT amount of white paint on the foam applicator and dragging it over my face once the first layer was dry.

Now it’s the fun part. Grab your black eyeliner or your black face paint crayon and start filling in around your eyes. Do the insides first and then the outsides so you can make sure you’re symmetrical. Can’t have a lazy black eye. You can get as close or as far away from the eye as you want. I got really close with black eye shadow (not the liner) just so it wouldn’t irritate my eyes later in the night.

DIY sugar skull 3

Now you’re feeling it. You can see the big picture!!!

It’s time for the eye design. You can do this like 3644829 different ways so yolo it if you want. I took the black eyeliner and went around the eye leaving a thin white line in-between the black eye and your new line. PS – you WILL go up on your nose with this circle. Now you have to add the ‘sunflower esk’ design. I took the red face paint crayon and just went around free hand with small half circles. Once you do a few you may have to whip off the crayon as there probably will be white paint on it from your face. I coulda done a better job here but I just went for it. Now grab your eye shadow brush and dip it into some back eye shadow. Apply it on your cheek bone or just under. Go for the darkness that looks good on you.  After you do both sides of shadow and eye design grab the black liquid liner. This will save your life.

DIY sugar skull 4

Now you are just going to outline all the half circles with the black liner. You NEED A STEADY HAND. If you don’t have one go find someone who does.

Next is your nose. I just did a basic upside-down heart shape on my nose making the point in the middle of my nose. There are a few different ways you can do your nose. Google or Pinterest it. This way was the easiest. It’s easier to apply right to your skin not the white paint so try and take it off with a Q-Tip before filling in. I again used the black soft eyeliner to color in. After that is done, I used my liquid eyeliner for a few designs on my forehead and my chin. Again copy me or look up different designs.

Next is the mouth! Finishing touch! I used the liquid eyeliner for this to get thin lines. I drew from the corner of my mouth up into the black cheek shadow. Again free handed it. Then I put a little white paint around my lips and filled the middle with dark maroon Bobbi Brown Lipstick (or black if you have it). Grab your liquid eyeliner one last time and draw the small stitch lines on your lips and cheeks!

DIY sugar skull 5

YOU’RE DONE!! These seems easy… it took me close to 2 hours soooo definitely plan out some time for this! Grab your flower crown and now you are ready to go.

DIY sugar skullDIY sugar skull coupleIt turned out amazing for both of us! People didn’t even know it was us. It was so fun! And the  best part, no terrible pimples or anything the day after from the makeup!!

Now you are ready to do your own Day of the Dead makeup! Good luck :)

Here is exactly what I used –

How To Make Homemade Salsa Dip

0 Permalink 0

I’m no chef, heck I’m not even close to an amateur chef but let me tell you I can follow a written recipe like a pro!! Chips and salsa & cheese and crackers are pretty much all I need in life to survive. Stuck on a desert island and I could only bring 3 things… (this counts as one) chips & salsa dip, (this counts as one) cheese & crackers, and then some sort of weapon or wine. This is under the assumption I wouldn’t be stuck there for very long.

A few weeks ago I was craving some fresh homemade salsa dip. My mom wanted me to bring something to my aunts for Labor Day so I did a bit of pinteresting. Found a recipe I thought fit my pickiness and off I was. I had gotten 2 HUGE tomatoes at the farmer’s market earlier that week (for like 2 bucks mind you) so I needed to hit Wegmans for a few tiny ingredients… literally and figuratively.

For the most part, I tried to mimic this salsa recipe. I ended up added a thing or 2 that I liked from doing a little more research.

How to make fresh homemade salsa

I know mason jars are suuuuper cliche right now but no joke they are a fabulous storage option for your fresh salsa. Keeps it fresh and allows for easy travel if you’re going to a party or just bringing it into the office! Okay onto the the salsa ingredients –

Fresh salsa Ingredients

2-3 Large Tomatoes (add another one if you like more tomato)

1/2 Yellow Onion (I’m not into onion so really go with your heart)

1/4 or 2 strips of a Green Pepper

1/2-3/4 Jalapeño depending on your desired hotness level

1 clove of garlic

3/4 cup of chopped Cilantro

some salt and pepper to taste

5 gentle squeezes of Lemon & Lime juice (half or 1 Tablespoon of each if using fresh)

Homemade salsa dip

Feel free to double this to make a bigger serving! Once you make it a time or 2 you’ll find your ingredient niche and add or subtract a few of the measurements above. Everyone likes it a little different!

To start, grab your tomatoes. I had an Oster chopper thing and put a few cubes of tomato in that to get some liquid going. After that, add to a bowl. Now hand chop the rest of your tomatoes. I wasn’t exactly sure how much tomato I wanted so I chopped a little, adding other ingredients, and then chopped a little more. After you have your tomatoes under control, grab the onion (and your tissues lol). Again, I chopped up a few cubes of onion and threw that in the Oster. Had to hand chop a few pieces that didn’t get chopped finely enough, though. Then grab the green pepper. I cut a few healthy stripes off the pepper and chopped it up. I estimated the size of the chop from how it is in the normal Tostito salsa. From there I gave it a good ole stir. That’s when I decide if I need more tomato or maybe need more blended tomato (the great juices!).

tomatoes for fresh salsa

Then I tested my patience with the chopping of the jalapeño. I wanted it chopped pretty fine so I went in with the knife and chopped, chopped, chopped. Keep the seeds with it!!!! That gives the salsa the heat!!! I repeat, put the jalapeño seeds in the bowl!! Now the garlic. I hate myself for not buying the pre-chopped kind so again I went in and chopped, chopped, chopped. Threw that in the bowl and gave it another good stir. All your hefty ingredients should be in there now. Grab your cilantro and start chopping that up. Throw that in. Shake in some salt & pepper and then add the lemon & lime juices. Again, give it a stir. From here I taste test and add more as my little taste buds desire. Remember that your chip is most likely going to be salted so no need to go heavy with the salt. To finish, add a bit of cilantro to garnish on top & you’re good to go!

Fresh salsa dip

This fresh recipe is perfect for a last minute dish or even just to satisfy those tastebuds at home. This has been a huge hit at my house! I’ve made it 4 or 5 times since Labor Day and will most likely continue throughout the winter.

Here are a few other fresh salsa recipes I came across on Pinterest – Try this, this, this blender one, or this avocado salsa one!!

Enjoy some fresh salsa, you deserve it!

Fall Foods We All Need To Try

fall recipes to try

Fall is among us… they say. 91 and humid as [email protected]^$ does not scream fall but it should be arriving towards the end of the week. I know I will 1000% regret that statement in 2 or 3 months but for now let’s go with it.

Fall means football, apple picking blah blah blah. Let’s be real here. It means we are allowed to be a fat ass because we need to beef up for the winter (no pun intended there with the beef comment). I have a few things I reallllyy want to make this fall. 1. because anything homemade rocks 2. its fun & 3. I want to impress John with my betsy homemaker skills. I pretty much do #3 already but a little overachieving never heard nobody.

I definitely need to try some pumpkin this and some apple that but I also wanna give some dinner choices a chance. If Chipotle was an option every night it would have already happened, so no need to ask. #ChipotleIsMyLife

Cin Sugar dips

My friend BLee over at RaeByDay made these TO-DIE-FOR churro balls & cream cheese frosting dip the other day so these were inspired off of that heavenlyness.
